HOW TO USE CTHULU (By Deadmau5 and Xfer Records) IN LOGIC PRO X

1.     Download and install Cthulhu.
2.     Go to spotlight search and type “Audio Midi Set Up”.
3.     Once the window pops up you have to click on the window and then click “Show Midi Studio”.
4.     The next step is to double click on IAC Driver.
5.     This will initiate the IAC Driver Properties window and within this window, you will want to make sure that the “Device Is Online” box is checked (if you don’t complete this step then all will be lost when we move into Logic Pro X).
6.     The sixth step is to open up Logic Pro X and initiate a software instrument track.
7.     After you completed the last step make sure you make your way towards the MIDI FX channel on your software instrument track and add the Cthulhu plug-in on the track.
8.      Once you do this the Cthulhu software window will open, you will be utilizing chords instead of arps for most production so make sure arp is unchecked (obviously you can use it if you desire).
9.     If you have previously downloaded and installed Cthulhu chord presets from third-party websites, then this would be the right time to load those. To do this you need to go to the Chord Presets drop-down menu within Cthulhu and select the key after you’ve found your sound.
10.  Next, you’ll want to record enable your track and hit R within Logic Pro X in order to record your new Grammy awaiting chord progression.
11.  This is where things get a little tricky so make sure to pay close attention.
12.  The twelfth step is to duplicate the current track with Cthulhu Midi information recorded on it.
13.  Then you’ll need to drag that Cthulhu Midi information onto the duplicated track that you just created.
14.  Next, you’ll have to make your way to the duplicated track (which should now have your Cthulhu Midi information on it) and go to the plugins option, select external instrument and stereo.
15.  A new window will pop up and this is the External Instrument Window. Within this window, you will change your Midi Destination to IAC Driver Bus 1 (so make sure you’ve completed step 5).
16.  This next step is of great importance, so make sure you do it. The track that doesn’t contain the Cthulhu Midi information should have Cthulhu disabled. This is the track that you will use to record the individual notes, of the entire chord progression, from Cthuhlu.
17.  Once you’ve got all the individual notes of the chord progression recorded onto the track that has Cthulhu disabled then you can delete the track that has the Cthulhu Midi information (the duplicated track from earlier in the process).
18.  There you go! You should now be able to run and operate Cthulhu! It is an amazing production tool that every aspiring producer should have in their arsenal.
